Policy Connect Announces re-launch of the All-Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group
This October sees Policy Connect launch its take over the secretariat of the All-Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group. The APG has been re-registered this summer in light of the newly elected Parliament, and will be hosting a ‘re-launch’ breakfast event on October 13th.
Having been previously run by The Carbon Neutral Company for 10 years, the APPCCG has had a membership of 250 to 350 parliamentary and associate members; held over 150 events and conducted three enquiries.
Policy Connect is the not-for-profit organisation behind groups including the All-Party Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group, Carbon Connect and the All-party Carbon Monoxide Group to name a few. It has a long running history of success in running Forums, Commissions and All-Party Parliamentary Groups.
With more than two decades in policy advisory and research, Policy Connect is very much looking forward to developing the APPCCG further in order to take its impact to the next level.
In order to ensure the Climate Change Group’s activities are effective in this new Parliament, a new selection of officers has been confirmed to lead the Group:
- Caroline Lucas MP (Green Party) – Chair
- Huw Irranca-Davies MP (Labour) – Vice Chair
- Lord Redesdale (Liberal Democrat) – Vice Chair
- Lord Oxburgh (Cross-Bench) – Vice Chair
- Rebecca Pow MP (Conservative) – Vice Chair
- Daniel Zeichner MP (Labour) – Vice Chair
- Kerry McCarthy MP (Labour) – Officer
- The Earl of Selborne GBE FRS DL (Conservative) – Officer
The goal of the APPCCG is to continue to engage Government departments and Parliamentarians alongside the private and public sectors to drive forward the issues of climate change that are ever-present across the country.
With this new selection of officers the APPCCG aims to influence effective policymaking in this Government that puts climate change adaptation and mitigation at the centre of decision making. This will ensure economic, environmental and social sustainability. This will be cross-party and apolitical with the new selection of officers heading the group alongside the variety of existing and new members.
Chairperson, Caroline Lucas MP, said: “I am looking forward to promoting the importance of climate change in this Government across public and private sectors – we are all facing huge challenges in the wake of the ongoing climate predicament. With Policy Connect leading the APPCCG’s development we can really put climate change research at the heart of future policy. We can highlight to our Government the importance of the need to act urgently on climate change by engaging with a wide cross section of society through events and research.”
Members of the APPCCG can now get involved with the Group’s activities on a regular basis and connect directly with the Government to promote significant issues and research conducted by Policy Connect’s sustainability team.
All of the above will be delivered by the sustainability team at Policy Connect who are passionately involved in environmental policy work, already overseeing Carbon Connect, the Westminster Sustainable Business Forum and All-Party Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group.
