RHA sees the importance of regular eye tests
The Road Haulage Association (RHA) (@RHANews) is pleased to be teaming up with Vision Express (@VisionExpress) to promote the importance of regular eye testing for heavy goods vehicle drivers.
This initiative is part of #RoadSafetyWeek and, with the help of the Vision Express Vision Van, drivers on major routes across the UK will be reminded about the importance of eye health.
Research from the road safety charity Brake shows that 1 in 4 drivers have not had their vision checked for two years. A further 4% - the equivalent to more than 1.5 million UK drivers - confessed to never having their eyes tested.
Road Haulage Association (RHA) chief executive Richard Burnett (@RHARichardB)said: “The link between eye health and road safety is very important. If a driver cannot see where they are going there is a higher risk of accident”.
Vision Express CEO Jonathan Lawson added: “With 50% of sight loss preventable, at Vision Express we’re calling on drivers to have an eye test and protect their vision, and their licence, for life. It’s worrying that for most of us, the only mandatory vision check is when we read a registration place from 20 metres as part of our driving test.”
Richard Burnett continued: “Vision Express is an important brand. It takes eye health care very seriously in the same way that we at the RHA take road transport very seriously. The e combination of the two brands is a great match. The activity we have planned for road safety week with Vision Express is very exciting from our perspective; we will be working with them and the Vision Van as it travels around the country providing free eye examinations.”
