RHA to find out if MPs are up to a truck driving challenge

Road Haulage Association

Next weeks Conservative Party Conference in Manchester (4-7 October) will see the Road Haulage Association (RHA) attending as an exhibitor.

As part of this initiative, the RHA will be demonstrating the high skill levels required to drive a heavy goods vehicle and are inviting all visitors to the stand to take part in a ‘Top Gear’ style challenge on a truck simulator. The aim will be to beat a score set by the industry’s very own ‘Stig’, Alan Marsh. Alan became Microlise Driver of the Year after being selected from a field over 90,000 drivers using Microlise’s own telematics software and we know that he’ll set a good score. But, as with all competitions, a high score can always be broken.

Commenting, RHA chief executive Richard Burnett said: “The RHA’s attendance at the Conservative Conference is just part of our campaign to raise awareness of National Lorry Week (26-31 October). This is aimed at boosting the profile of the industry with the general public, schoolchildren and college leavers, as well as those looking for a change of career. And, at a time when we are facing such a massive driver shortage, we need to do all we can to encourage new entrants in to the industry. Drivers, technicians, warehouse operatives: the jobs are there just waiting for the right people.

“Everyone will be welcome and we encourage all visitors to put their driving skills to the test. Please come and see us on stand 53 in the conference exhibition area to see if you have what it takes to beat the road transport industry’s best driver.

“You never know, one day one of our challengers may want a change of career!”
