Transvac Systems, Barrnon Ltd, Saturn Bioponics and Dearman all received awards at an Innovate UK small business innovation awards ceremony in Parliament.

The Innovate UK small business innovation awards, now in their second year, were presented by Jo Johnson MP, Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation and hosted by Damian Collins, MP for Folkestone & Hythe and chair of the Commons Culture Media and Sport select committee.

Environmental business Transvac Systems has been awarded the prize for Innovation leading to business transformation in an awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament. The award was given because  the company is set for major growth after developing an innovative system to capture gas that is otherwise wasted at source.

Innovative engineering firm Barrnon Ltd was awarded first place for innovation leading to new markets because the company is providing durable trawling gear for fishermen to develop a new technique for removing nuclear waste.

After developing a new 3D growing system which can quadruple crop yield and cut labour costs by 50%, Saturn Bioponics won the award for  innovation leading to productivity improvement.

Finally, Dearman was awarded first place for innovation attracting investment. The clean and cold power firm has developed a liquid nitrogen engine, for which the company has attracted more than £16 million in investment and could create 1,000s of jobs. Dearman also won the “inspiring Innovation” category, personally chosen by Jo Johnson because of the ground breaking potential of their project
