The Road Haulage Association - three Core Demands to Ease the Crisis at Calais
At todays Home Affairs Select Committee hearing into the current situation at Calais, RHA Chief Executive Richard Burnett will present the Associations three core demands to protect lorry drivers in Calais who are running the gauntlet of aggressive migrant activity on a daily basis.
In evidence partly based on his visit to Calais during the recent period of unprecedented migrant activity Richard Burnett will call for:
The security levels at the Port of Calais to be improved to secure the safe passage of HGVs; not just within the Port perimeter but in the surrounding environs up to a distance of 5kms.
If the police can’t cope, the French military must be deployed to help the Port authorities to control immigration and security.
Secure parking for HGVs waiting to board ferries and trains.
Commenting, Mr Burnett said: “The Road Haulage Association has been calling for extra security for hauliers for years. Recent developments in Calais have seen the problem escalate to the point where the local authorities just cannot cope.”
