Unite launches welfare ad campaign
The country’s largest trade union has said its new advertising campaign will highlight “welfare hypocrisy” by the government.
Len McCluskey, general secretary of
Unite, will launch the campaign on Thursday. It will use digital mobile billboards as well as online advertising and billboards.
“”The billboards will tour London and starkly contrast cuts to welfare and tax credits which will leave an estimated 11.5 million households worse off from 1 April, with the government's £100,000 tax give away to millionaires,” a Unite spokesman said.
“The advertising campaign coincides with the launch of a new website called 'Our Welfare Works' that attacks the key myths that have been used to promote welfare cuts.
“Bringing together a coalition of unions and charities, key opinion formers, celebrities, and community campaigners, 'Our Welfare Works' captures the voices of those hardest hit and signposts people to take local action with
UniteCommunity Membership.
“The launch of the site and adverts follows unjust attempts to divide those in and out of work, and deep concerns that a disproportionate burden is being placed on the poorest for the failings of the economy.”
