As the nation focuses its attention on the World Cup, Britain's butchers are preparing for another international tournament.
Next month the Tri-Nations Butchers’ Challenge will see our boys - a team of six UK butchers - take on rivals from Australia and New Zealand.
Just like the World Cup, it will be a test of skill and invention.
The competition is designed to attract the next generation of butchers to the profession.
David Lishman, captain of Team GB, has shared his hopes that the event will inspire a future generation of top-class meat experts.
David, founder and manager of Lishman’s of Ilkley, is captaining the British team for the second year running.
The event is being held on home soil for the first time and will take place at the Great Yorkshire Show, on July 10.
“As well as finding a winning team – who will have bragging rights until the next time – the competition is a chance for youngsters with an interest in the art to see some of the best butchers in the world producing some of their best work,” said David.
“The competitive aspect is the focus for all three teams; we each want to win and hold the title for the year ahead. But this is also an opportunity to share good practice, and for youngsters who want to learn, to learn from the best.”
The competition is garnering social media attention, and the #Butchery3Nations hashtag generating national support for each of the teams.
Members of the public are welcome to come along and lend support to the GB team (Great Yorkshire show tickets are available from
