Donald Trump brands Sadiq Khan a 'stone cold loser' as he lands in UK for state visit

2 min read

Donald Trump launched a furious attack on Sadiq Khan within seconds of arriving in the UK for his much-anticipated state visit.

The US president was still on board Air Force One when he branded the London mayor a “stone cold loser”.

His comments - on the second anniversary of the London Bridge terror attack - appeared to be in response to Mr Khan saying Britain should not be rolling out the red carpet for the controversial billionaire, who he accused of having “abhorrent and offensive” views.

In tweets which were apparently posted as his plane approached Stansted Airport, Mr Trump said: "Sadiq Khan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly “nasty” to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom.

“He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me......”

He continued: "....Kahn reminds me very much of our very dumb and incompetent Mayor of NYC, de Blasio, who has also done a terrible job - only half his height.

"In any event, I look forward to being a great friend to the United Kingdom, and am looking very much forward to my visit. Landing now!"

A spokesperson for Mr Khan said: “This is much more serious than childish insults which should be beneath the President of the United States.

"Sadiq is representing the progressive values of London and our country warning that Donald Trump is the most egregious example of a growing far-right threat around the globe, which is putting at risk the basic values that have defined our liberal democracies for more than 70 years.”

President Trump is set to enjoy a lavish state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Monday night, before holding talks with Theresa May on Tuesday.

Speaking to the Sunday Times ahead of his trip, the US strongman blasted the UK Government’s negotiating strategy on Brexit and urged for Nigel Farage to be involved in talks with Brussels.
