Donald Trump told Theresa May ‘she could become the next Churchill’

Donald Trump reportedly told Theresa May over the phone that she could be this generation’s Winston Churchill.
The US President is said to have compared the Prime Minister to Britain’s wartime leader after he watched Gary Oldman play Churchill in new film the Darkest Hour.
The Daily Telegraph reports that three sources familiar with the call confirmed Mr Trump told Mrs May, “you could be this generation’s Churchill”, or words to that effect.
Mrs May’s response to the statement, which is said to have taken place on 19 December last year, is unknown.
Figures both in the White House and Downing Street confirmed the remarks, the paper says.
The claim comes after Bloomberg News reported that in phone calls between the two leaders, Mrs May now "finds it impossible to make headway and get her points across".
Citing senior current and former government officials anonymously, a feature on their website claimed that "Trump totally dominates the discussion, leaving the prime minister with five or 10 seconds to speak before he interrupts and launches into another monologue."
The two leaders are set to meet later today in Davos for the first time since he snubbed a UK visit earlier this month - a move he insisted was down to the location of the new US embassy in London.
The Prime Minister will use her speech at the World Economic Forum to warn social media firms that they risk becoming "the terrorists' platform" and "first choice app for paedophiles".
