FULL LIST: All the seats being targeted by the cross-party anti-Brexit Unite to Remain group

The alliance will see a single pro-Remain candidate standing in 49 seats in England and a further 11 in Wales.

The agreement was struck under the 'Unite to Remain' banner, led by outgoing Liberal Democrat MP Heidi Allen.

The deal will see Jo Swinson's Liberal Democrats given a chance at 43 constituencies, including Bermondsey and Old Southwark, Wimbledon, Twickenham and Richmond Park in England as well as Cardiff Central and Montgomeryshire in Wales.

Meanwhile, the Greens will get a shot at nine seats in England and one in Wales.

Plaid Cymru will get a boost in seven seats as a result of the Unite to Remain plan.

Former Tory MPs Dominic Grieve and Anna Soubry, as well as former Labour MP Gavin Shuker, will also get a clear run at their seats as independent candidates in a bid to return a pro-Remain majority to parliament.

Announcing the pact on Thursday, Ms Swinson said: “I am delighted that this arrangement will help elect more pro-Remain MPs in the next Parliament.

“In the 43 seats agreed today, as well as hundreds more across the country, it is clear that the Liberal Democrats are the strongest party of Remain.

“A vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to stop Brexit, so that we can invest the £50 billion Remain bonuses in our public services and build a brighter future.”

Sian Berry, co-leader of the Green Party, said: "The crash-out Brexit the Tories are pushing for would be a disaster for people up and down England and Wales. And for action on climate chaos."

And Adam Price, leader of Plaid Cymru, added: "In these deeply serious times we need grown-up politics that puts our countries before parties.

"The single most important thing in this election is that we return as many pro-Remain MPs back in Parliament as possible."

But Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell hit back at news of pact, saying: "I remember what the Lib Dems did when they were in government.

"I say to those - go and ask any disabled person who went through the brutality of the work capability assessment. We will never into pacts or deals like that - ever."
