GMB says Deliveroo's explotative employment practices are out of date - not legislation

Companies like Deliveroo are trying to subvert the law and shirk their employer responsibilities says GMB.
GMB, the union for gig economy workers, says it’s the exploitative employment practices of companies like Deliveroo are out of date - not the law.
The gig economy delivery company today called for a change in legislation so they don’t have to treat their riders as employees.
But GMB says current legislation is more than adequate for protecting workers – as long as it is properly enforced.
Maria Ludkin, GMB legal director, said:
“The only people who think the law is out of date are the companies like Deliveroo, who are trying to subvert the law and exploit workers.
“The law, when properly enforced, does the job of ensuring working people are paid national minimum wage and given the most basic employment rights.”
