GMB says genuine schools funding increase welcome - but not from cuts to staff

If this new funding comes from more cuts then the quality of children's services will continue to suffer.
GMB, the union for school support staff, has responded to a schools funding announcement by Justine Greening in Parliament today.
The Secretary of State pledged an additional £1.3 billion from 2018/9 to 2019/20.
However, Greening said that much of the money is likely to come from efficiency savings.
Sharon Wilde, GMB National Officer for Schools, said:
"Any genuine increase in funding will be welcome, but school staff won't believe it until they see an end to the job cuts and funding droughts that are pushing the education system to the brink.
“If this new funding comes from more cuts to teaching assistants and other support staff then the quality of children's services will continue to suffer."
