Government committee 'mulls stripping Harvey Weinstein of CBE'
1 min read
A government committee is mulling over whether to strip disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein of his CBE, it has been reported.
The Honours Forfeiture Committee is “actively considering” the move for the first time, according to the BBC.
Producer Mr Weinstein stands accused of multiple incidents of rape and sexual assault - the latest from actress and writer Brit Marling.
He was awarded an honorary CBE in 2004 for his “outstanding contribution” to the British film industry.
A number of Labour MPs have written to Theresa May calling for Mr Weinstein to be stripped of the award.
A spokesperson for the Cabinet Office was unable to comment on whether a specific case was being considered by the committee, and added that any decision was “confidential”.
If it were to rule that Mr Weinstein should lose his honour, the Prime Minister would send the recommendation to the Queen.
Mr Weinstein has already been suspended by Bafta.
