Jeremy Corbyn attacks Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke over hunting channel launch

1 min read

Jeremy Corbyn has hit out at Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke for propping up a “brutal” and “unethical” sport by launching a new subscription hunting channel.

The north London football club’s chief has come under fire after launching the blood sports service, My Outdoor TV, which shows “thousands of hunting, fishing and shooting episodes featuring the biggest names in outdoor TV...how-to videos and even wild game recipes."

The Labour leader, who is both an Arsenal fan and MP for the surrounding area of Islington North, said Mr Kroenke should “stick to football”, the Press Association reports.

"I'm appalled at the glorification of killing wild and rare animals on this TV channel.

“As an Arsenal fan I’m disgusted that Stan Kroenke is involved in such a brutal, unethical and unnecessary activity,” he said.

“This is not sport. Kroenke should stick to football if he wants to be involved sport. ‘Blood sport’ is a contradiction and there should be no place on television or anywhere else for it.”

Mr Kroenke’s channel offers thousands of hunting shows for a subscription of $9.99 (£7.60) a month, including one that shows a woman shooting an antelope with a bow and men chasing bears with dogs, according to the Times.
