Labour MP Mike Hill suspended from party amid sexual harassment allegations

Labour MP Mike Hill has had the whip withdrawn and his party membership suspended over claims he sexually harassed a parliamentary staffer.
The Hartlepool MP has been accused of making unwanted sexual advances to the woman, who the Sunday Times says made a complaint to the party this month.
The paper added that the alleged victim also contacted the police.
The allegations put forward by the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, comes as Labour hosts its annual party conference in Brighton.
A party spokesperson said: “The Labour Party takes all complaints of sexual harassment extremely seriously, which are fully investigated and any appropriate disciplinary action taken in line with the Party’s rules and procedures.
“We are determined to challenge and overturn sexual harassment and misogyny within politics and across society as a whole. We cannot comment on individual complaints.”
Labour offers a helpline for victims of sexual harassment and independent advice on how to make complaints.
Mr Hill was first elected to the Commons in 2017.
The Sunday Times claims he declined to comment.
