Pro-Brexit Labour and Tory MPs set to unite to stop Henry VIII powers

Leave supporting Labour and Conservative MPs are set to unite to prevent Theresa May implementing procedures to allow the Government change legislation related to Brexit without consulting Parliament.
The EU Withdrawal Bill - which transposes EU statutes into British law – is set to be debated for the first time this week.
The document will include plans for so-called 'Henry VIII clauses', which allow the Government to change laws after they have reached the statute book without votes or scrutiny from MPs or peers.
MPs are reportedly unhappy with the move, which the Government claims is necessary because it needs to move 1,000 pieces of EU law into British legislation for the first time.
Senior Tories have told The Sun they are planning to late until the later stages of the bill to rebel as they are hoping this will force Mrs May to back down.
Tory MP and former constitution minister John Penrose told the paper: “The current draft of the Repeal Bill gives lots of power to Ministers so we can deliver Brexit - which is essential - but it cuts Parliament’s role right down.
“Ministers have already said they don’t want this Bill to be a ‘power grab’, so I’m sure they will listen and bring forward their own changes as the Bill goes through Parliament.”
Leave campaigner and Labour John Mann said: “We voted to take back powers into our Parliament in the referendum, not give them away”.
