Sajid Javid targets rogue landlords with new tenant complaints system

Sajid Javid has announced plans for a streamlined rental complaints system allowing tenants to seek help over shoddy housing and squalid conditions.
The Communities and Housing Secretary launched an eight-week consultation on a new scheme to crack down on rogue landlords renting out overcrowded and dangerous homes.
It is thought the complexity of the current complaints system - which includes four different bodies - is being exploited by rogue landlords.
Among the options put out for consideration over the next eight weeks are a single housing ombudsman to cover the entire market and a naming and shaming system for bad landlords.
Mr Javid said: "For too long, tenants and homeowners have navigated multiple complaints procedures to resolve disputes about everyday household repairs and maintenance.
"Fixing this housing crisis is about more than just building homes, it's ensuring people have the answers available when something goes wrong.”
