Theresa May ‘set to pledge more cash for Calais migrants’ ahead of Macron meeting

Theresa May is reportedly set to commit more cash for Calais migrants in order to retain Britain’s border arrangements with France.
According to The Sun, the Prime Minister will also agree that Britain should take on more child refugees as part of a renegotiated deal.
Emmanuel Macron visited refugees in the port yesterday pledging that the situation created by the so called ‘Jungle’ camp, which was home to almost 8,000 displaced people, would not be repeated.
There are now only around 500 migrants from around the world based in Calais, attempting to cross the border and enter the UK.
The agreement – Le Touquet – which allows Britain to police its border in the French city will be discussed when President Macron meets Mrs May tomorrow.
The Prime Minister is expected to make concessions on funding and taking in child refugees, in order to retain the current arrangement and avoid camps springing up in Dover.
The French president has previously threatened to rip up the 2003 deal, but has since softened his stance.
The Sun reports that officials were last night “haggling” over the details of a new arrangement.
Yesterday, President Macron said he planned to “evoke with Theresa May several issues that we must improve in our joint management.
“Better handling the question of lone children migrants, reinforcing police co-operation...and releasing funds to support important projects for the development of the Calais area: those are the points we will carry...in the dialogue we will have with our British friends.”
