Theresa May wants 'girl power' boost with female James Bond

Theresa May has said James Bond should one day be played by a woman.
The Prime Minister told reporters she was looking forward to watching Jodie Whittaker play the first female Doctor Who on Christmas day - saying it was a step forward for “girl power”.
And she said the 007 franchise should follow suit - although she refused to reveal who she would like to see in the role next.
“I do like watching Doctor Who at Christmas,” she told reporters on a flight to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus where she will give a festive address to British troops.
“I think it’s a great move forward for girl power that there is going to be a female Doctor Who. And one day there should be a female James Bond.”
On who might replace Daniel Craig as the next Bond, Mrs May said: “I don’t know who is being lined up.
“I read the other day that James Norton was being talked about as a possible James Bond. I think he did an interview where he said he’d quite like to.”
Indeed, Mr Norton told the Radio Times last week his latest role in McMafia would “stir” rumours he could be the next 007.
Asked whether she would back Mr Norton becoming the next fictional MI5 spy hero, Ms May said: “That’s a leading question! I don’t know who the other candidates might be.”
RAF Akrotiri is the main airbase for British operations against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
The Prime Minister will also wish service families a happy Christmas at an early years children’s centre before returning to the UK for her own festive celebrations.
