Tory website poll finds 59% of Conservative members want Theresa May to quit

Theresa May’s position as Conservative leader is under fresh scrutiny after an informal survey of Tory members suggested a majority want her to resign.
An online poll by the ConservativeHome website found that 59% of members said the Prime Minister should quit after the Tories lost its overall majority in the Commons.
Of the 1,500 respondents, 37% said they did not want her to resign, while 4% said they did not know.
The website’s readers as a whole – taking into account both members and non-members – found 65% believed Mrs May should quit, compared to 31% who supported her remaining.
The Prime Minister said yesterday she would form another government with the support of the DUP’s ten MPs at Westminster.
But the recriminations for the campaign are underway, with Tory MP Heidi Allen claiming Mrs May is not “the leader we need”.
Others have turned their fire on the Prime Minister’s joint chiefs of staff, Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill for what former Tory minister Rob Wilson – who lost his seat on Thursday – described as a “terrible” election campaign.
