WATCH Theresa May conference speech interrupted by P45 prankster

John Ashmore

2 min read

Theresa May's Tory conference speech was thrown into disarray this morning as a prankster handed her a P45 form on stage.

Comedian Simon Brodkin, who has made his name with a series of pranks on celebrities, took to the stage towards the beginning of Mrs May's conference speech waving a P45 form.

Mrs May took the form before Mr Brodkin, best known for playing the character Lee Nelson, was escorted out by conference staff.

Mr Brodkin quipped that "Boris made me do it" to a crowd of reporters at the Manchester venue.

The incident is sure to raise serious questions about the Prime Minister's security at such a high-profile event.

Things went from bad to worse for the Prime Minister as she was forced to stop on several occasions because of a coughing fit.

At one point the audience produced a lengthy round of applause to help her take a drink of water, with Chancellor Philip Hammond handing his colleague a cough sweet.

She did manage to make light of her problems by joking that "the Chancellor is giving something away for free".
