Responding to Stephen Crabb MP 's article on the impact of vaccine investment on developing countries economic success, WaterAid have released the following statement.

'"Diarrhoea caused by dirty water, sanitation and unhygienic conditions kills a child under five every two minutes, every single day.

"Vaccines that help prevent diarrhoeal disease such as rotovirus that are recommended for introduction in low-income countries, have maximum impact when they are part of a comprehensive package of interventions to reduce diarrhoea, including ensuring every child has clean water to drink, a decent toilet to use and good hygiene practices.

"WaterAid has found that vaccinations are increasingly successful when delivered in a community at the same time as hygiene education which helps provide the first line of defence against disease."
