Two thirds of young people want Brexit abandoned, new poll says

Two thirds of young people believe Brexit should be abandoned, according to a new poll, in an apparent “wake-up call” to the Government.
Some 66% of 18 to 24-year-olds agreed that ‘Brexit should be stopped’, according to the survey by pollsters BMG for the website Left Foot Forward.
Pro-EU campaigners seized on the results and said young people “fear for their future and want the Government to change direction”.
When only Black and Ethnic Minority respondents were taken into account the number of 18 to 24-year-olds wanting Brexit halted rose to 69%.
And 45% of young people said they believe Brexit can be stopped – compared with 37% of the entire electorate.
Best for Britain CEO Eloise Todd said the poll was “incredibly heartening” to people like herself who felt their future had been “taken from them” at the referendum last year.
“Young people are caring, passionate and know the world that does not end at the White Cliffs of Dover,” she added.
“This needs to be a wake-up call to the government. Young people fear for their future and want the government to change direction.”
Elsewhere in the poll almost one in ten Leave voters (8%) said they also thought Britain should in fact remain in the EU.
Some 18% of Conservatives agreed compared with 65% of Labour supporters. Some 38% of voters overall thought Brexit should be abandoned.
Open Britain executive director James McGrory said: “As more new facts emerge and it becomes clearer still that the Brexit being delivered looks nothing like the one they were promised, voters have every right to keep an open mind about whether leaving the EU is the right thing for our country to do.”
