£100,000 bets on Royal baby

Bookmaker William Hill has said hundreds of people have placed bets on the name, weight and sex of the Royal baby.

HRH The Duchess of Cambridge went into labour this morning, nine days after her due date.

The largest bet on the baby's sex so far was £5,000, with that customer betting it will be a girl, according to William Hill. There was also a £1,000 bet that the baby will be a boy.

One punter has placed a £400 bet, at odds of 10/1, that baby Cambridge will be christened Mary.

A spokesman for William Hillsaid there have been £100,000 of bets on the Royal baby so far.

Many have already lost bets on the date of birth because the Duchess is overdue.

The bookmaker is offering odds of 11/4 on the baby being named Alexandra, with George on 5/1, and Elizabeth and Victoria on 10/1.

There are also odds of 250/1 on Adam, Wayne and Chardonnay and 500/1 on Waynetta.

When the baby is born, an official announcement with the child's name, sex and birth weight will be displayed on an easel at Buckingham Palace.

The announcement will also be posted on Twitter and Facebook.
