A horse named Tarzan and axemen cause a stir at Newtonmore Folk Museum

A logging horse named Tarzan was a popular attraction at the Woodland Trust Scotlands Heavy Horses and Axemen event, held on Saturday 22 August at the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore.

The event was a demonstration of traditional forestry techniques including horse logging, tree felling with axes and cross-cutting using hand saws.

Trees are being felled in the woodland next to the Museum to thin a dense plantation of Scots pine, improving biodiversity and improving the habitat for wildlife including red squirrels.

The event was kindly supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Scottish Forestry Trust and the MacRobert Trust.
