A Million Hands: our brand new partnership with the Scouts
Were thrilled to be joining forces with the UK Scouts Association, to get a million hands behind our goal of reaching everyone everywhere with safe, clean water.
This autumn, the Scouts Association have launched a new campaign, aiming to enlist half a million Scouts (that's a million hands!) to support six of their favourite charities – and we’re delighted to be one of them.
Over the next three years, every Scout group across the country will be encouraged to make a pledge to help us ensure everyone everywhere has access to clean water and sanitation by 2030.
They'll also be promoting hand sanitation in their local communities, and raising awareness of the need to look after the UK’s waterways.
To celebrate the launch of the campaign, Ernest, our Voices from the Field Officer in Madagascar, met Chief Scout Bear Grylls to teach him how to make a 'tippy tap', a brilliantly simple way to access running water for washing your hands.
Keith Dunmall, Youth Engagement Manager said "It's very easy for us to take clean water, good sanitation and good hygiene behaviour for granted; yet for millions of people, these basic necessities are luxuries that remain out of reach. We're thrilled to have the support of Scouts across the UK, who are helping us highlight how we can tackle the global water and sanitation crisis."
All six charities were chosen by the Scouts themselves. They'll also be supporting the work of Mind, Alzheimer’s Society (Dementia Friends), Guide Dogs, Leonard Cheshire Disability and The Canal River Trust.
