BANT takes legal action against Department of Health and Association for Nutrition on Royal Charter

British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT)

1 min read Partner content

In 2019 the Association for Nutrition (AfN) petitioned the Privy Council for a royal charter of incorporation claiming that it is the pre-eminent body in the field of nutrition, health and allied subjects. BANT made representations that the grant of a royal charter was not in the public interest and AfN did not meet the published criteria for such an award. Privy Council Advisors (Department of Health) have considered BANT’s objections and have nonetheless recommended that chartered status be granted.

BANT is now seeking Judicial Review proceedings to challenge this recommendation, which will have a significant impact on the practise of nutrition going forward.

BANT will give further notice of court developments, including the details of any public hearings.
