Better Care Fund: an opportunity for health and social care to support carers, not the other way around.

Responding to the PACs report on the Better Care Fund, Carers Trust's director of policy and research, Dr Moira Fraser said:

“The Better Care Fund was an opportunity for health and social care to support carers, not the other way around. We have been concerned that by focussing on preventing hospital admissions this will result in the exclusion of other forms of support. As a result the Better Care Fund has become a way of saving money rather than remaining focused on providing better care.

“The Public Accounts Committee has reinforced our concerns. We urge the government to ensure the agenda is not dominated solely by the needs of the acute care sector and that social care - which is vital to ensuring good quality support as well as preventing the escalation of needs -  is adequately protected and funded.”
