British Red Cross appoints David Bernstein as new chair
The British Red Cross is delighted to announce the appointment of David Bernstein as chair of its board of trustees, with effect from 1 January 2014.
David is a former chair of the Football Association, Wembley Stadium and Manchester City FC. He has served on many company boards including Pentland Group, French Connection and Carluccio's and is currently chair of fashion company Ted Baker.
A chartered accountant, David's past charitable and voluntary activities include working with disabled supporters via Level Playing Field and CAFE and with the Prince's Trust on vocational skills. He is actively involved in pursuing the cause of diversity and equality without discrimination in football.
Mr Bernstein replaces Lord Allen of Kensington as chair, following his recent appointment to the House of Lords.
Paul Taylor, vice chair of the British Red Cross, announcing the appointment, said: “We are delighted to welcome David as our new chair. He brings with him a wealth of experience from the commercial, sporting and voluntary sectors and we are sure he will make a great contribution to our work in the UK and internationally.”
David Bernstein commented: “I am greatly honoured to have been appointed chair of this marvellous organisation, and to have the opportunity of continuing Charles Allen's great work with the board of trustees and senior management team. I look forward to making a meaningful contribution over the coming years."
