Comment on Scottish budget from Net Zero Technology Centre
The draft Scottish budget unveiled today includes plans to triple investment in offshore wind.
Finance Secretary Shona Robison said the £150 million will advance the government’s commitment of up to £500 million over five years, which could leverage £1.5 billion in private sector investment and anchor the supply chain in Scotland.
Aberdeen and the north-east of Scotland, home to the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC), are already at the forefront of the energy transition, supporting thousands of jobs in oil and gas, offshore wind, and emerging cleantech industries.
NZTC has unlocked tens of millions of pounds from the private sector and co-invested £400 million to advance and deliver technology development and demonstration projects.
Myrtle Dawes, chief executive of the Net Zero Technology Centre, said:
“We welcome this government investment in Scotland’s burgeoning offshore wind sector, and commend Finance Secretary Shona Robison’s commitment to attracting private sector capital.
“For decades, Aberdeen and the north-east have been at the forefront of energy innovation, with talent, technology and wind power in abundance. Scotland has the necessary ingredients to become the net zero capital of Europe.”
