West Sussex-based coach and bus company, Compass Travel, has acquired a new bus to service a brand new route, following a £130,000 finance package from Santander Corporate Commercial. The vehicle is a ‘Wrights Streetlite 40 seater’ and is one of the first ‘63’ plates in the area.

The route will link the new site for Worthing Sixth Form College to Worthing railway station and town centre, and run every 30 minutes. It starts this month to coincide with the opening of the college. Compass Travel has also invested in seven other buses in recent weeks for new contracts in East Sussex.

Managing Director, Chris Chatfield, has owned and operated Compass Travel for 20 years. Compass Travel has 70 vehicles in their fleet and employs 140 people. It operates a large network of bus routes in West and East Sussex, Brighton Hove and Surrey, together with a small fleet of coaches for school contracts and private hire.

Chris Chatfield, Managing Director of Compass Travel, said: “We are always looking for new opportunities to expand our business. The new buses have been well received by the public and enable us to provide a high standard of service with modern, reliable vehicles. It’s wonderful to have the help of a bank that can see our vision and help to make it a reality.”

David Pearce, Relationship Director for Santander Corporate Commercial, said: “Compass Travel has grown rapidly under the current management who are well respected in the area. We have worked with Chris and his finance team over a number of years and are delighted to continue to support their plans, particularly as local transport is extremely important to local communities.”
