HRH The Prince of Wales was among those celebrating the launch of the Princes Foundation for Building Communitys new Beauty In My Back Yard (BIMBY) housing toolkit yesterday.

BIMBY is a new resource that gives communities the tools to directly influence the quality and beauty of new building developments in their local areas. The online tool includes a series of workshops to guide community groups through the planning process, along with advice on how to engage with planning in a positive way.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) supports this important new resource, and was represented at yesterday’s launch by Chris Dady, chair of CPRE Norfolk.

Shaun Spiers, Chief Executive of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), added:

‘We need to see more homes built, but we also need to create beautiful places that promote community and are socially and environmentally sustainable. Not only will the BIMBY approach enhance people’s lives; it will make it much easier to get consent to the developments in the first place.

“The way to create places that people will want to live in, or which they will welcome as neighbours, is to involve the community at every step of the development. I very much welcome the BIMBY toolkit and we’ll be encouraging people to make good use of it.’
