Delay to care charges is the 'right thing to do'

Carers Trust

Dr Moira Fraser, Director of Policy and Research for Carers Trust, responded to today's announcementthat elderly care caps would be delayed, saying:

“Today’s announcement that the proposed cap on care charges has been delayed until 2020 is the right thing to do. Social care is in crisis and this must be addressed before a cap can be introduced. Carers and the people they care for are not getting the support they need from services.  The Government must end the funding crisis in social care.

“This is a prime opportunity for the Government to look again at providing urgent funding to support the care system or face the added cost of support required when carers and caring relationships break down.”
