EHRC welcomes recommendations from the Joint Committee on Human Rights
Equality and Human Rights Commission
EHRC has welcomed the Joint Committee on Human Rights recommendation that our powers to tackle breaches of human rights should be strengthened and our resources increased says David Isaac, EHRC Chair.
We have frequently expressed our strong concerns that legal aid restrictions and reduced funding of advice services are preventing people from receiving legal help when they feel their rights have been breached. Accessing justice should not be based on an ability to pay. We need urgent action to remove these barriers and ensure the justice system works fairly for everyone.
We welcome the Committee’s recommendation that our powers to tackle breaches of human rights should be strengthened, and our resources increased, so we can better tackle breaches of human rights law to ensure that everyone’s human rights are respected and protected.
