A continuation of discussions concerning veteran wellbeing took place today (Wednesday, 27th September) when the EUROMIL President, Emmanuel Jacob, visited the HQ of Veterans Aid in London.

Hugh Milroy and Emmanuel JacobDr Hugh Milroy, CEO of Veterans Aid and President Jacob had initial talks when they met at the World Veterans Federation Congress in Belgrade earlier this year.

President Jacob said, “Today’s serving personnel are tomorrow’s veterans, so it is absolutely vital we at EUROMIL engage with those who provide proven cutting-edge support to the veteran community. We are really interested in the successful methodology used by Veterans Aid, in particular its Welfare to Wellbeing© model.”

Dr Milroy said, “It is clear that EUROMIL has an important role to play within the military community on a grand scale and I’m pleased to be able to contribute towards developing a future of veteran care that actually works.  We will help in any way we can and President Jacob and I have agreed to have further discussions as necessary. Both the WVF and Veterans Aid are committed to placing wellbeing at the heart of veteran care going forward.”

Dr Milroy, who is Honorary Professor of Social Work at the University of East Anglia, and Head of Wellbeing at The World Veterans Federation, added, “despite the challenging nature of the context, it is clear that debates focusing on effective and ineffective care for veterans are crucial if best practice is to be achieved.”
