Dr Mike Short from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) said: “Messaging options have exploded in recent years, giving consumers a far wider range of communication choice. Instead of being restricted to text messages, emails or instant messaging or phone calls, people can now choose from a raft of apps-based messaging services instead.

“Innovation in the messaging and social media markets will continue to advance over the coming years. We will see ongoing growth in visual messaging where the consumer is able to exchange many more icons, photos and videos.”
