Get 1-to-1 careers guidance, job search and financial advice with BVA at LVS
Vets looking for inspiration to invigorate their careers this year can count again on the British Veterinary Association (BVA) Careers Fair to deliver stimulating talks as well as free one-to-one careers and financial planning sessions.
Following its popularity at the London Vet Show (LVS) last year, and incorporating delegate feedback, the BVA Careers Fair, in association with Vet Record Careers, returns to London Olympia on 21 and 22 November with three main themes: starting your career, career options, and taking the next step in your career.
All elements of the BVA Careers Fair are open exclusively to BVA members with the hugely popular one-to-one sessions expected to be snapped up quickly again this year. The one-to-one careers sessions are being provided by the BVA Careers Service and have been kindly sponsored by RIG Vets and the financial one-to-ones are being provided by BVA’s affiliate partners Lloyd and Whyte. Booking will open in mid-September.
Highlights from the careers lectures include:
• How to get the job everyone wants
• What should and shouldn’t be in my contract?
• Top 10 tips to avoid being sued!
• How to squeeze 30 hours into one day
• Entering a joint venture partnership, and
• Sessions on specific career options such as research, charity work, emergency and critical care, and industry
Other session topics include getting support from your practice, finance, insurance and pensions, how to talk to clients, work/life balance, specialisation, working overseas, and career changes.
Simon Read from RIG Vets, sponsors of the one-to-one careers sessions, said:
“As the UK’s leading veterinary recruitment company we are delighted to be sponsoring these sessions and assisting the BVA in its work to support members throughout their veterinary careers.”
Danny James of Lloyd and Whyte, providers of the financial and insurance advice sessions, added:
“The most popular subjects vets wanted to talk about last year were financial protection and saving for the future, particularly retirement, but we are available to discuss any financial planning issues that members have.”
Gemma Ludgate from the BVA Careers Service, providers of the careers sessions, said:
“We are pleased to be back again this year to offer advice to members on any career issues they may have including career progression within the veterinary sector and considering a complete career change”
BVA President Peter Jones added:
“Our commitment to support BVA members in shaping their professional futures continues with advice around veterinary careers and career development at the BVA Careers Fair and one-to-one sessions which wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors and partners. I’d really recommend our Careers Fair lectures at the Show and look forward to meeting delegates at our stand, S42.”
BVA members get access to the full BVA offering, as well as the usual London Vet Show programme, for 15% less than the lowest advertised price. To book members need their membership number and to quote offer code ‘BVA11’.
Non-members can sign up to BVA during the Show in order to attend the BVA Careers Fair but becoming a BVA member before the event saves time on the day, further information is available at www.bva.co.uk/join.
