Local government spending cuts will be passed onto care services

Carers Trust

Carers Trust warns that care services will be forced to close unless central government funds local authorities sufficiently.

Dr Moira Fraser, director of policy and research for Carers Trust, said:

“Carers Trust supports the Government’s commitment to ensuring that our valued care workers receive the pay and support they deserve.

“However, as the research from the Local Government Association issued today shows, many care providers lack the funds to pay this. Unless central government funds local authorities sufficiently and this is passed on to care services, many could be forced to close, leaving a terrible gap in support for thousands of carers.

“Carers Trust backs the UK Homecare Association’s call to use the upcoming Spending Review to ensure care providers can pay their staff the new Living Wage.”
