National Infrastructure Plan

Simon Harrison from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Energy Policy Panel said:

“It’s an exciting time for electricity infrastructure with eight of the ‘Top 40’ projects being in electricity generation and networks.  But greater strategic attention needs to be given to energy efficiency, given that the reduction in energy demand over the last few years has been largely caused by the economic downturn rather than by policy interventions and the Green Deal has failed to provide sufficient incentives for the public to improve the efficiency of the housing stock.  And vitally, there is an urgent need for effective systems integration in the electricity sector.   Simply adding the new projects to the existing infrastructure without considering how everything will work together will pose significant risks to supply resilience, and cause extra costs.”
