New appointments this week in UK politics, the civil service and public affairs

Dods People draws together a list of appointments in Westminster politics, the devolved administrations and the public affairs sector in the last week.


Departments of State:

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service – Brendan Barber to remain as Chair until 1st July.

HM Treasury

UK Government Investments - Charles Donald to become Chief Executive on 12th March, replacing Justin Manson who had been in the role on an interim basis.

Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

British Film Institute - Jay Hunt, Michael Birshan and Eleanor Whitley appointed as Governors.

 

Devolved Authorities:

Scottish Government

Kate Forbes appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Finance (formerly Minister for Public Finance, keeping responsibility for Digital Economy).

Fiona Hyslop appointed as Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Fair Work and Culture (formerly Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs).

Michael Russell appointed as Cabinet Secretary for the Constitution, Europe and External Affairs (formerly Cabinet Secretary for Government Business and Constitutional Relations).

Fergus Ewing appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy and Tourism (formerly Cabinet Secretary for Rural Economy.)

Jenny Gilruth appointed as Minister for Europe and International Development.

Ben Macpherson appointed as Minister for Public Finance and Migration (formerly Minister for Europe, Migration and International Development).

Scottish Conservative Shadow Cabinet

Liam Kerr reappointed as Deputy Leader and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Justice.

Annie Wells appointed as Deputy Leader and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change, Environment, Land Reform and COP26 (formerly Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Public Health and Equalities).

Liz Smith appointed as Chief Whip (formerly Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills).

Alexander Stewart appointed as Deputy Chief Whip (formerly Shadow Minister for Local Government, International Development and Migration).

Donald Cameron appointed as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance (formerly Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change, Environment and Land Reform).

Alexander Burnett appointed as Shadow Minister for Finance (formerly Shadow Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy; Deputy Chief Whip).

Murdo Fraser appointed as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for the Constitution and External Affairs (formerly Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance).

Oliver Mundell appointed as Shadow Minister for Constitution and External Affairs (formerly Shadow Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science).

Miles Briggs reappointed as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health.

Brian Whittle appointed as Shadow Cabinet Minister for Health (formerly Shadow Minister for Sport and Wellbeing).

Jamie Halcro Johnston appointed as Shadow Minister for Education (formerly Shadow Minister for Jobs, Employability and Skills).

Maurice Golden reappointed as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Fair Work and Culture.

Jeremy Balfour appointed as Shadow Minister for Housing, Communities and Social Security (formerly Shadow Minister for Welfare, Disability and Older People).

Adam Tomkins appointed as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Strategy (formerly Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Constitutional Relations).

Finlay Carson appointed as Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Environment, Land Reform and COP26 (formerly Shadow Minister for Natural Environment and Digital Economy).

Northern Ireland Assembly

Committee for Infrastructure - Martina Anderson appointed as a member.

Committee for Justice - Martina Anderson appointed as a member.

Committee on Procedures – Gary Middleton replaced Harry Harvey as a member.

Public Accounts Committee - Harry Harvey replaced Gary Middleton as a member.

 

Parties:

Scottish National Party – Murray Foote named as the new Head of Communications and Research.

 

Local Authorities:

By-election Result 19th February

Middlesbrough council – Luke Mason elected for Coulby Newham – Conservative hold (caused by the resignation of former Conservative councillor David Smith).
