Suspended Labour MP Mike Amesbury Jailed For Ten Weeks

Suspended Labour MP Mike Amesbury has been jailed for ten weeks after punching a man in the street.
Amesbury, the MP for Runcorn and Helsby since 2017, pleaded guilty in January after assaulting 45-year-old Paul Fellows in a Cheshire street. He lost the Labour whip over the incident, becoming an independent MP as a result.
The court heard that he had consumed alcohol before attacking Fellows. Footage showed Amesbury hit Fellows before following him onto the road. He was then heard saying Fellows "won't threaten your MP again will you."
A by-election is expected to take place in his constituency following his sentence.
He won the seat with a 14,696 majority at the July general election. Nigel Farage's Reform UK came second.
