'Social care system is in crisis'
Legislation to reform social care, should be a priority in the Queen's Speech, says Age UK.
The social care system is in crisis with inadequate funding and a chaotic legal framework which is confusing and unfair and fails to look after many of the most vulnerable in our society.
The Dilnot Commission's report on funding published in July 2011 addressed the funding structures of social care and the Law Commission's review published in May 2011 made recommendations for improving and streamlining social care law.
We believe a bill on social care reform taken alongside funding reform will make a real difference for users of social care and their families by ensuring a clear, logical and consistent framework for social care.
Age UK's Care in Crisis campaign is calling for the government to ensure a strong and secure financial and legal framework for social care that would ensure everyone who needs care and support receives a sufficient level of quality care and that no one faces catastrophic costs to pay for it.
