Solicitors Regulation Authority
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has welcomed the Competition and Market Authority's (CMA) calls for reform of legal services to make the market more open and competitive.
The reports sets out steps to make legal services more widely available, addresses anti-competitive restrictions on where solicitors can work, and emphasises transparency as fundamental to consumer choice. The SRA reform programme is targeting these areas and the report will give impetus to the planned changes.
Paul Philip, SRA Chief Executive, said "We welcome the final CMA report on its review of the legal market. I am pleased that the CMA has strongly endorsed our reform proposals , which will help to tackle unmet need and support members of the public and small businesses to access legal services.
"The report makes a good case for regulation that is independent of both representation and Government, echoing the SRA view that independent regulation is key for public confidence and will help increase public trust in the sector."
