A Conservative MP has been arrested on suspicion of rape and the possession of controlled substances.
In a statement, police said that a man was arrested on Wednesday and then released on conditional bail.
"We can confirm a man was arrested yesterday morning (25 October) on suspicion of rape and possession of controlled substances," they said.
"He has been released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries."
The MP arrested has had the party whip removed and has been asked to stay away from the parliamentary estate.
Crispin Blunt, the Conservative MP for Reigate, in a statement posted on social media said that he was the MP arrested and denies the allegation.
Blunt said he had been interviewed twice in connection with the allegations, the second time being this morning. He said he is "ready to cooperate fully with the investigation that I am confident will end without charge".
