Theresa May today sent condolences to victims of the “completely senseless” attack in Las Vegas which left dozens of people dead.
At least 58 people were killed and hundreds more injured in a mass shooting at an open-air music festival in Nevada last night.
The gunman, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, opened fire towards the 22,000 concert-goers from the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel.
The Prime Minister said Britain’s “thoughts and prayers” were with the victims of the attack.
“I’ve just spoken to President [Donald] Trump to pass on my condolences and that of the whole country on this appalling attack that has taken place in Las Vegas,” she told the BBC.
“It was a completely senseless attack and so many people have been killed and injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been victims of this terrible attack.”
She said the Foreign Office was working with the Consular General to find out whether any Britons had been caught up in the incident.
“Of course we will provide every support possible to the Las Vegas authorities and to any British families, if there are any British nationals involved,” she added.
Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said he was “horrified” by the "awful attack" and insisted the UK "stands with the American people against this indiscriminate violence".
Jeremy Corbyn also tweeted about the "terrible" attack and paid tribute to the emergency services.
