Commissioners explore ‘behind the bottle’ at Coca-Cola Enterprises
On Wednesday 7th May 2014 a cross group of parliamentarians and commissioners visited the Coca-Cola Enterprises in North London as part of a series of industry visits exploring the challenges of food supply chains.
Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) are one of the world’s largest independent Coca-Cola bottlers, selling more than 4 billion bottles and cans in Great Britain every year. CCE makes, sells and distributes many of the UK’s most popular soft drinks including; Coca-Cola, Fanta, Dr Pepper, Sprite, Oasis, Five Alive and many more. The IPT’s visit to CCE’s site in Edmonton, London provided evidence for the Industry and Parliament Trusts Sustainable Food Supply Chain Commission (in association with the Food Ethics Council and the University of Warwick), exploring the challenges of maintaining a sustainable food supply chain.
As part of the visit, commissioners took part in a ‘behind the bottle’ tour of the site with Julian Hunt, (Vice President of Public Affairs Communications), which detailed the creative process of making, packaging, selling and distributing CCE products. Attendees met with site employees, including Operations Director Steve Thorpe,(NAME) to gain an insight into the challenges of delivering and maintaining CCE products and standards.
Throughout the afternoon attendees spent time with members of the learning department for an overview of its work at the education centre before proceeding on a tour of the Edmonton facility.
Julian Hunt, Vice President of Public Affairs Communications, said: “It was a pleasure to provide the Commissioners an opportunity to learn more about CCE. We are proud to be a truly local business, with 97% of the products we sell in Great Britain made in our six factories in this country. We were able to showcase the significant investments we have made in our Edmonton facility in recent years, boosting its efficiency and environmental performance.”
