EHRC response to Red Cross calling for 28 day immigration detention limit

Equality and Human Rights Commission

The Equality and Human Rights Commission have responded to Red Cross calling for 28 day immigration detention limit.

Equality and Human Rights Commission Chief Executive, Rebecca Hilsenrath, said

"The UK is the only country in Europe that has not set a time limit for immigration detention. Vulnerable people, who have already been through so much hardship, continue to be put at risk by this failure. The UN has also expressed their concern and we support the call for a 28 day limit. Everyone has the same fundamental human rights regardless of where they are from."
