GMB says ASOS now has chance to employ staff directly after ditching transline
Not only would this be the right thing to do, it would make good business sense, says union.
ASOS now has the chance to employ its warehouse staff directly after ditching ailing agency Transline, says GMB.
Transline, who have been criticised for the way the treat workers at ASOS’s Barnsley warehouse, filed court papers protecting it from creditors last week – and has now been axed by the fast fashion company.
GMB, the union for Asos workers, says this gives the fashion retailer the chance to employ its warehouse staff directly – with proper terms and conditions.
Neil Derrick , GMB Regional Secretary, said:
"The employment agency industry is rife with bad practice, exploitation and corner-cutting - and it's the worker who is bearing the brunt of the risk.
“We are seeing a growing number of firms make agency work a big part of their business model - and ASOS uses significant numbers of agency workers in its warehouse.
“While it is no surprise to us that Transline have gone into administration, this must not be an excuse for employers to swap one agency with another.
“Instead GMB wants to see more direct employment and more job security.
“Not only would this be the right thing to do, it would make good business sense as well."
