Eddie Tuttle of theCIOB, commentedon research released today by the Local Government Association (LGA) on housing andcallsfor further investment in high quality training.

The crisis in the UK’s housing market is well documented.  As this report from the LGA highlights, the skills shortage facing the construction industry remains a serious barrier to its productivity and success.  We are clear that the desired level of housing and infrastructure will not be met without a genuine commitment to overcome some of the skills issues that exist.

It is vitally important that measures designed to help the industry increase the capability of its workforce champion greater diversity and inclusively. The ability of the construction industry to respond to the housing crisis and clear the back-log of homes will also be determined by investments in high quality training and apprenticeships – with a particular focus on their uptake across the UK.
