MIMA comments on the introduction of a Government bill to cap high-cost energy tariffs
Sarah Kostense-Winterton, Executive Director of the Mineral Wool Insulation Manufacturers Association (MIMA) & member of the Energy Efficiency Infrastructure Group (EEIG) comments on the introduction of a Government bill to cap high-cost energy tariffs:
“There is substantial evidence that the best way of reducing future energy bills is through improving the energy performance of the homes themselves. Raising the energy performance of UK homes to EPC band C by 2035 will cut energy bills by £270 a year and save a quarter of the energy currently used by the UK.
MIMA, as part of the Energy Efficiency Infrastructure Group (EEIG) believes that the UK government should deliver a large-scale infrastructure programme to deliver on its commitment to raise the energy performance of homes to EPC C by 2035. Doing so will reduce bills for consumers, deliver huge benefits to the economy to the tune of £7.5bn, and would vastly improve the health and well-being of those living in British homes. Action on this issue will also save a quarter of the energy currently used on the UK and will be significant in helping it meet its climate change goals.
Through the Frontier Economics report “Affordable Warmth, Clean Growth” a comprehensive delivery plan for homes and buildings has now been set out. We look forward to the government effectively delivering its own concrete proposals on this issue in the near future.”
